Cost Effective Ways to Decorate Your Apartment
category: AccessoriesSo you’ve moved into your new city centre apartment! Now you’re going to want to decorate it to your taste and make it a place of your own. However, it’s likely you’ve spent most of your savings on buying the apartment itself. Don’t fear, there are plenty of cost effective ways to decorate your apartment and to put your stamp on it without the need of splashing out.
Before starting, take a look at the things that you already have. It’s likely that you already have large items such as sofas, wardrobes and beds, as well as collectibles and pieces of art that you would want to keep. These pieces can be a great foundation for your apartment’s new life.
With these items at hand, you will want to start making them work cohesively in your apartment with a uniform look and style. Look through some interior design magazines or websites. Just worry about costs just yet, you just need a feel for the look and tone that suits you, your furniture and your apartment. Don’t forget that furniture can be completely transformed with a small amount of money by recovering it with new material such as covers and drapes from second hand shops.
Try not to replicate your favourite looks on the page. It’s best to take your favourite parts of a range of different looks to best suit your needs, and simply acquire the essence of what you are trying to create. It will cost considerably less too! Being by making a suitable configuration of furniture inside the apartment, and try different layouts to make the most of the space available. Don’t simply leave the room with gaps or areas that simply don’t look right!
With the basics now in place, search through the rest of your belongings to find pieces that fit with your new theme. Try painting your furniture to make them match. For example, a plant in an ugly pot can be easily transformed by painting it white or a design that fits with the room.
After using every belonging that you own, take a look at the outcome. Does your apartment match the idea you held in your mind? Does the chosen theme flow, or does it need some accessories to help it along? Do you have enough furniture to fill the space, or do you need to add some plants or end tables to help pad it out? How about rearranging some of the furniture?
To complete your apartment’s new look, try visiting some second hand or charity shops for small accessories or pieces of furniture. As always, be creative with your new purchases. Fabric is great at giving an old item some new life, as well as pillow covers and table covers. Art and ceramics can also really add to a room’s overall feel and will add a finishing touch that really makes your apartment stand out.
