Starting up your own restaurant
Starting your own restaurant is a serious undertaking and should not be entered into lightly. However there are some key stops you should follow in order to build the perfect dining experience.
Name: go wild with the name; pick something you think will spark a bit of interest and entice people into your restaurant. Asking friends and family for their opinion can be a good idea, as they know you the best and might be able to offer up something akin to your personality.
Some people go for something simple, like 'Food' or 'Eat'; or some go for more personalised names, such as 'Sarah's Sarnies', 'Pete's Paninis' or 'Ian's Italian'. It's entirely up to you.
Location: where you choose to set up shop can make or break your business. Think about the local population, the site's accessibility and the space available for customers with cars. Try to pick a spot close to a train station or other public transport amenities, and keep an eye on where your competitors lie - as you want to be just close enough, but not right door.
Furniture and decor: deciding upon which restaurant furniture to choose is tricky. Think about what sort of ambiance you want to create...do you want a party atmosphere, with lots of bright colours and colourful decorations; or do you fancy a more laid-back lounge feel, with neutral tones and low lighting?
Menu: the true heart of any restaurant, this is the one thing that will keep 'em coming back. Even if the service is poor (which it shouldn't be!) the food will entice happy eaters in again and again.
Changing the menu as each season comes is another great idea, as it offers variety and might make people more inclined to buy a meal if their favourite comfort foods are on offer in Winter, or there are light, crunchy salads on offer in Summer.
