Give your home a Spring makeover

home design Give your home a Spring makeover

Spring has finally sprung, so perhaps it's time to spruce up your home, ready for the sun to appear and light up the skies. Here are a few handy tips on how you can give your house a Spring makeover.

Firstly, buy some cheap paint and slap it on your ceilings. You won't notice how dirty and faded they are until you get up there on the ladder and inspect them; but beware, once you do, you'll want to paint them straightaway. This is a really cheap and easy way to brighten up the room and make it feel cleaner.

Secondly, think about reorganising your bookshelves and other shelving units throughout the house. Over time, bookshelves in particular can get dingy and disorganised, making the room feel cluttered and untidy. Be sure to give the shelves a good clean with hot soapy water mid-way, to ensure you're putting your belongings back onto spotless shelves.

Thirdly, think about procuring some made-to-measure blinds, some large mirrors and a colourful rug to liven up your living room or bedroom. The blinds will make a lot of difference, and the mirrors will go a long way in reflecting the natural sunlight - making the room feel a lot bigger. Rugs can be a great addition, as they brighten up an otherwise drab carpet; or can give you a cosy place to put your feet on if your floors are laminate.

Also, while you're in the bedroom, consider cleaning out your closet. Make a pile of your favourite clothes, and those you are willing to part with. If they're in good condition, you can give them to a charity - which will make wonderful use of them. Matching hangers are another great investment, which aren't too expensive and help to bring some order into a busy closet.

Lastly, to make the most of that wonderful Spring sunshine and heat, take a look around your home to see if any spot could be transformed into a window seat. Perhaps you've got a space by a large bay window, or a half-way point on the staircase that looks out onto a window.

By buying some cushions, throws and filling a big vase with fresh lilies, you've got a great seating area that's perfect for wiling the hours away with a good book.
