Devon says yes to solar

Mid-Devon counsellors have voted “yes” to the installation of solar panels on the roofs of 1,400 council homes and properties across mid-Devon.
The decision was taken as part of a bid to lift the area’s many vulnerable people out of a situation where they are in fuel poverty.
Fuel poverty kills thousands of people every year as a result of them having to choose between food and heating. The counsellors see solar PV as a solution to the problem.
What is fuel poverty?
Fuel poverty is a situation where a household uses 10% of its income to heat and power their home. Gas and electricity have gone up so much in recent months that many more families are plunged into this horrible state of affairs than ever before in recent history.
A recent Daily Mirror report stated that a household now needs to earn £30,000 a year before they can lift themselves out of fuel poverty.
What’s going to happen in Devon?
1,400 council homes across mid-Devon will have solar panels fitted to their roof, this should save the occupants over £100 a year in electricity bills and is a welcome help to many vulnerable people in the area who would have really struggled otherwise.
Installing solar panels is very topical right now because the government is cutting the Feed-in Tariff rates. This means that getting your installation booked as soon as possible is absolutely vital!
