DIY on a budget
If you are in the mood for giving your home a mini-makeover ahead of the upcoming holiday season but are concerned about budget, don't be. Contrary to popular belief, you don't have to re-mortgage your home just to make it a bit fresher! Be brave and do it yourself. What's more, be brave and DIY on a budget!
Where do you start with this DIY approach then? Well, heading straight for the power drill and saw isn't advised. Unless you know what you are doing with power tools, you shouldn't be using them. That doesn't mean you can't pick up a roller and some paint however, as this doesn't require a huge amount of skill - just a bit of common sense. Painting a room can give it a whole new feel; opening it up or making it more intense, depending on the colour. It's the absolute perfect way in which to revive it or make it feel fresher, so you should definitely choose this as your first step.
Next, consider space in your rooms. Are the bookcases overflowing with your favourite novels, or the chest of drawers bulging with rubbish? You need to first clear them out and then if you're still struggling for space, why not put up some shelves? All you need for this is the shelves, a hammer, some nails and other assorted bits. You don't need a power tool, fear not and if you've got an able body on hand, you could even ask them to do it. Utilising the wall space is really clever and will also make a feature of them if you've gone for neutral paint colours.
Accessories are your last step. Look at your curtains and curtain poles...do they look grimy next to your fresh paint? Ditch 'em and get some new ones in. Is your rug looking a bit shabby or worn? Get a new one. It is little touches like this that will really make a room feel made over, so don't be afraid to spend a little bit more than you had previously anticipated.
